How to read a pin memo
A pin memo is a plain-text screen of one pin. It counts MODELED ERA5 hours from the last ~365 days. It is not a forecast. It is not a promise. Read it from the top down.
1 · Recipe
The Recipe hash line holds the pin, the cloud threshold, the Ka thresholds, the job, night, and prior year. It holds no hours. Open window.tools with that hash to run the same recipe again. The next line gives the ERA5 dates in GMT. Latest ends 5 UTC days ago. Prior year is the same length, 365 days earlier.
2 · Cell and smear
ERA5 has one value per ~0.25° grid cell. The memo names the cell and the distance from the pin to it (the smear). The hours are for that cell, not the summit or pad. DEM elev is the Open-Meteo 90 m DEM value, not ERA5 terrain.
3 · Counts
One ERA5 row is one hour. Optical-clear: cloud cover at or below the recipe threshold (default 20%) and precipitation = 0. Ka-open: rain below the recipe threshold (default 0.1 mm). Ka heavy-fade: rain at or above the recipe threshold (default 1.0 mm). Heavy-fade is a risk count. It is not subtracted from Ka-open. Hours with missing data are skipped. They are not filled. Shares are of resolved hours. Night, when on, is sun elevation below −0.833° at the cell, not photometric night. The labels on the monthly bars show the same share as the bar. The counts are in the summary and the CSV.
4 · Runs
A run is a set of consecutive hours that pass the rule. A skipped hour ends a run. Median and max are run lengths in hours. They are counts. They do not promise a pass length.
5 · Judgment
The last line is one sentence from Terminus. It cites the counts above. It does not state availability, uptime, an SLA, or a “suitable site”. Window refuses those words. If the line is still in [brackets], there is no judgment yet.
6 · Never claimed
No availability %. No SLA. No link budget. No underwriting. No live or operational weather. No comparison or ranking of pins. No average or delta of two years.
7 · Not modeled
